Photo Guidelines

Tips for taking photos that help our AI provide accurate estimates

Capture Multiple Angles

For the most accurate estimate, provide photos from different viewpoints:

  • Front View: Shows the width and height of the debris pile
  • Side View: Reveals the depth and profile shape
  • Top/Overhead View: Helps assess the overall footprint (if safe to capture)

Multiple angles help the AI build a 3D understanding of the pile's volume.

Include Reference Objects

A reference object of known size dramatically improves accuracy:

  • Measuring stick: A 4ft or 6ft pole/stick works great
  • Traffic cone: Standard road cones are 28" tall
  • 5-gallon bucket: Approximately 14" tall
  • Person standing nearby: Average adult height for scale

Place the reference object next to the debris pile, visible in at least one photo.

Good Lighting

Proper lighting helps the AI see details clearly:

  • Natural daylight works best
  • Avoid harsh shadows that obscure portions of the pile
  • If shooting indoors, ensure adequate lighting
  • Avoid backlighting (don't shoot toward the sun)

Clear, Unobstructed View

Make sure the entire debris pile is visible:

  • Step back far enough to capture the full pile
  • Remove or move obstacles blocking the view
  • Keep the camera steady to avoid blur
  • Ensure the debris boundaries are visible

Quick Reference

Do

  • Take multiple photos from different angles
  • Include a reference object for scale
  • Capture the entire pile in frame
  • Take photos in good lighting
  • Label your photos with view types

Don't

  • Submit blurry or out-of-focus photos
  • Cut off parts of the debris pile
  • Take photos with objects blocking the view
  • Use only one angle for large piles
  • Shoot in very dark conditions
